While the summer transfer window closed in England last Thursday, it’s still open in Europe for 18 more days. Thus, Paul Pogba can still leave Manchester United and join FC Barcelona between now and August 31. While United reportedly don’t want to sell him, and the chances of a deal getting done in the next two and half weeks aren’t extremely high, there seems to be more traction being gained in this transfer narrative now.
FC Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has made public comments that have left the door open. Bartomeu refused to rule out the possibility, when he was asked about Pogba after Barca’s 2-1 Super Cup win against Sevilla.
“I won’t speak of any names, we have respect for all clubs and there are 20 days left,” Bartomeu responded.
“We’ll see which players come out. We’re focused on the league, so it’s best to ask [Eric] Abidal, [Ramon] Planes or Pep Segura about players. There’s still time to do business.”
Paul Pogba transfer rumors, with Barcelona being the team most consistently linked, have been given a boost due to a cryptic Instagram post Pogba made upon leaving Old Trafford after the opening night win, and the explosive non-answer for an answer he gave to reporters on Friday night.
“If you’re not happy, you cannot give your best,” Pogba told the media after the win, in which he served as Captain. “There are things that I cannot say otherwise I will get fined.”
In other words, watch this space. Pogba to FC Barcelona is one transfer narrative that is probably going to keep gaining steam and potentially run until La Liga deadline day.
