Angel Di Maria, the most expensive signing in British history, who cost Manchester United £59.7 million, it still set to join his current team on July 25th. Yes, rumors are running wild today that Di Maria has played his last game for United and joined Paris St. Germain, but the last official word contradicts that.
Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Angel Di Maria will fly out to join Manchester United’s preseason tour on Saturday, despite the uncertainty about his future. Van Gaal himself has been ambiguous about Di Maria’s future, but he was clear about the Argentine Winger still being a part of the team, as of now.
There have been reports that PSG and United have already agreed on a deal, and that Di Maria could be unveiled as a member of the French champions as early as Friday. Maybe that scenario will in fact come to fruition, but it hasn’t happened yet. Di Maria, who suffered a difficult campaign at Old Trafford won’t be playing against PSG on July 30th when the two clubs meet in a preseason friendly at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Now if he joins PSG would be play against his United teammates in the match? Who knows, but probably not. Van Gaal suggested that Di Maria, his teammate in club and country Marcos Rojo, and injured striker Chicharito will not play in that specific friendly. Di Maria and Rojo were granted an extended leave due to Argentina making a run to the title game of the Copa America.
As has been previously reported, if Di Maria does want to transfer to PSG, he’ll have to force it through by handing in the formal transfer request himself.
