Embattled Manchester United Manager David Moyes said the officials’ calls were terrible in the club’s 2-1 defeat by Sunderland in the Capital One Cup semi-final.
“We’re having to play them as well as the opposition at the moment,” David Moyes said. “It’s really terrible, it really is. We’re actually beginning to laugh at them, that’s the thing.”
Strong words for the officials from David Moyes. The Sunderland loss marked three consecutive defeats for United, the first time that’s happened since 2001. Under Moyes, the Red Devils have a made a lot of history, and not the good kind. United have suffered home losses to certain teams that haven’t won at Old Trafford in decades. So as much as the Scot has been viciously criticized by United supporters, there are still fans singing his praises. Literally; as groups of fans sang in honor of David Moyes in the last game.
Now back to David Moyes ripping the officials in the Sunderland loss:
“I thought the referee was going to blow in our direction for the first goal,” David Moyes said. “I couldn’t believe he gave a free-kick. It was a terrible decision. We defended a terrible free-kick but how the referee has given a free-kick for that is way beyond me. I just cannot see how that is a free-kick. The centre-half and the centre-forward jumped together and he gave them a free-kick.”
