Manchester United Transfer Talk: Declan Rice, Christian Eriksen, Juan Mata

The rebuild of Manchester United could definitely take some time, so get ready and dig your heels in for that. The upshot is that we should, at least in theory, have a blockbuster summer transfer window filled with many comings and goings.

With Manchester United linked to approximately 97,324 players already (although only one has actually been acquired), the time is right for some Red Devils transfer talk. With just 12 days until players report for training camp, United need to take their slow start to the summer transfer window and really kick it up a notch.

We commence with Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen, who is out of contract at the end of the upcoming season.

The great Dane has made it known that he would like to leave, preferably for a bigger club. He’s been linked to Real Madrid and Juventus, but with the former already taking care of player acquisition business elsewhere and the latter fixated on bringing Paul Pogba back, Eriksen may need to look elsewhere.

He’s been linked with Manchester United and Liverpool, with former Spurs ace Jamie O’Hara believing Anfield to be the better destination.

“I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that they might try and take Eriksen from Tottenham as he’s in the last year on his deal,” said O’Hara. “He’s the type of player they need.”

Elsewhere, midfielder Juan Mata is set to extend his stay at Old Trafford, as he’s on the brink of signing a new deal, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The Sun claims Mata’s deal is for three years, which would then keep him at the club until age 34.

Speaking of the Sun, they have a story on United’s interest in West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice. The other tabloids have picked up on it too, with the narrative being the Irons don’t want to sell, but could be tempted with a £80 million bid. If Paul Pogba does leave, and with Ander Herrera already gone, United will really need to beef up the midfield this summer.
