After playing the youngest side in Liverpool’s history on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp will send out a more veteran group on Wednesday when the team starts the EFL Cup semifinals on the road at Southampton on Wednesday.
Simon Mignolet returns to the net after Loris Karius pitched a shutout in a 0-0 draw with Plymouth.
James Milner should return from an injury that saw him leave the Reds’ last PL game with Sunderland early.
Klopp said he is good to go, and he will take his normal spot in the line-up with Clyne, Lovren and Klavan. Joel Matip is getting closer to being ready, but won’t be able to go on Wednesday.
Jordan Henderson is still being bothered with a heel issue and while it seems to be getting better, Liverpool shouldn’t risk him with the busy schedule they have coming up. Emre Can will slide into Henderson’s normal role, with Wijnaldum and Lallana staying in their more traditional roles.
With Sadio Mane gone to the African Cup of Nations, Liverpool loses one of their top attacking threats. But they still have plenty of weapons with Firmino, Sturridge and Origi up top. Philippe Coutinho is also expected to be available for Klopp, but is most likely going to come off the bench.
