Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool are ready to “fight for our dreams” in the eternal city tonight when they take on AS Roma in away leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final tie. Liverpool are up 5-2 from the first leg at home, and in optimal position to go through to the final.
Real Madrid advanced last night, and if the Reds can knock off the two time European champions, it would make their sixth all time triumph in the tournament.
“It’s great that the boys gave us the opportunity to be here with their performances, the attitude they showed and all the things they did in this Champions League campaign,” said Klopp of the chance to reach an 8th Cu final.
“We deserve to be here and if we get the result we need we will really deserve to be in the final. We are here to fight for our dreams, that’s how it is, and we want to go to the final. After the game at Anfield a few people had a feeling we lost. We didn’t.”
“Meanwhile after a week a few people think Roma only have to win 3-0 but that is quite a result and we will be there as well tomorrow, we will not be waiting in the dressing room.”
Klopp also added that he “loves the gesture” of Roma players training in ‘Forza Sean’ shirts, paying homage to Reds supporter Sean Cox, who was attacked before the Champions League semi-final first leg against Roma at Anfield. Cox suffered injuries so severe that he lay in an induced coma, and in critical condition over the weekend.
