Jurgen Klopp Brutally Honest About His Team’s Awful Defending

Today, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said what so many people think all across the world when it comes to his team’s defending. No matter what team or sport you follow/are a fan of, when things go bad, you can easily analogize it to Liverpool’s back line. No matter the position group in whichever sport you’re discussing, the comparisons usually work.

Today brought yet another new low, as Liverpool crashed out of the FA Cup, losing at home to West Bromwich Albion, a side so bad that they’re currently in 19th place out of 20 in the Premier League.

The 3-2 loss comes right on the heels of the Reds losing 1-0 in league play to the team that sits in 20th place, Swansea City.

“The second one; wow, really bad defending,” Jurgen Klopp said in a television interview in regards to West Brom’s second goal, which came in the 11′. “The whole group involved in that situation, not really compact, we let them play the ball, make the cross and the goal scorer is completely free in the box.”

“That’s not how defending should be. Then we don’t use the chance with the penalty, which can happen, of course.”

The German was also irked by his defenders’ inability to stop the Baggies’ third goal, which came right before half time. Klopp felt that they easily should have been able to handle the situation, and was simply astounded that they could not.

“The third one is then in extra time of the first half. It must be offside. It’s unbelievable he wasn’t,” Jurgen Klopp said.

“It’s easy to defend; you push up, they pass the ball back and [Craig] Dawson is offside. He wasn’t, he celebrated the goal and he was like, ‘what can I do, if they let me do this?’

Liverpool FC supporters everywhere share the same sense of astonishment and disappointment as Jurgen Klopp did at that moment.
