Of the remaining eight teams in the UEFA Champions League competition, only Barcelona have better odds than Manchester City of winning it all. Liverpool’s odds are only the sixth most favorable. Despite being the underdogs, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp says he knows what his side needs to do in order to pull out the upset.
Klopp says his team needs to play their style against Man City, and show thew courage to go right after them. He knows they need to get and keep the intensity up.
“If we can put our specific style, philosophy and mix it up with our attitude and stuff like this, being brave, then there is something in it for us,” Klopp is quoted in the Liverpool Echo.
“I love these games. They are fantastic for me as a manager and you know if you play City they do what they do at the highest level. They don’t defend the result, they go again.”
“It’s cool. For sure, the first one will be a really exciting game to watch.”
Liverpool’s 4-3 victory over City in January at Anfield was the perfect commercial for the Premier League. It was indeed a thriller, and we’ll be very lucky if they can duplicate a showing like that. On paper, it’s about as exciting a match-up as you can get for this round.
Jurgen Klopp knows his opponents are going to be really amped for this tie as well.
“Two very intense games,” he said of the upcoming matchup. “If they are not intense from our point of view, we have no chance.”
