Jorginho Says Maurizio Sarri Juventus Move Would be Viewed as Betrayal

Midfielder Jorginho moved with manager Maurizio Sarri from Napoli to Chelsea last summer, but it’s safe to say that he won’t be doing that again this transfer window. Sarri is reportedly ready to leave Stamford Bridge and take the vacant Juventus job, a move that would be viewed as “a betrayal” by Napoli fans, according to Jorginho.

Juve are the ruling oligarchs of Serie A and as such are not very well like amongst supporters of other clubs in Italy. As for Chelsea, they seem on the brink of very uncertain, somewhat shaky times as their best player and manager are likely headed for the exits whilst a transfer ban looms.

Jorginho spoke to a press conference today ahead of Italy’s 2022 European championships qualifier against Greece. He said that a Sarri move to Juve would go over like a lead ballon in Naples.

“It would be [a betrayal] and that’s normal. Neapolitans had and still have Sarri in their hearts,” he said.

“We know what the people of Naples are like — they’re very passionate. So, for them it could really be a betrayal, because it’s how they are.”

In addition to the negative reaction that would occur in Naples, Jorginho said the Chelsea community would be quite upset as well if Sarri decided to bolt.

“I believe [Sarri leaving] would be disappointing for everyone,” Jorginho continued.

“I think Sarri has grown a lot and learned a lot in the Premier League.”

“Not just through coaching us but by having joined such a big club — one of the biggest in the world. Having worked with certain players has helped him grow.”

Sarri led Chelsea back into the top four this season, which was about as high a benchmark as anyone could have set for this side. He also achieved the first major trophy of his coaching career (Europa League title) and he took treble winning Manchester City to extra time and penalty kicks in the EFL Cup.
