Eden Hazard Says Chelsea Does Not Need Another Striker

UPDATE: Eden Hazard speaks out about his father’s comments in regards to Chelsea contract situation, Real Madrid transfer interest.

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard, impressed by the play of Michy Batshuayi, maintains that his team does not need to deep into the transfer market and obtain another striker. The Blues beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 on Saturday, and did so with Pedro and Alvaro Morata both suspended.

It’s been an extremely interesting and active January transfer window, and last week saw reports linking Stamford Bridge with loan moves for West Ham United’s Andy Carroll and Stoke City’s Peter Crouch. Eden Hazard believes the defending Premier League champions are just fine in this department though.

“Football is simple: keep the ball on the ground and try (to perform) like we did,” Hazard said of his club, who have also been linked to Roma’s Edin Dzeko.

“I think we have two very good strikers in Alvaro and Michy. If they are not ready to play I can play striker, so I don’t think we need (to go get and get another one).

“Because we are missing chances people are saying we need another striker, but if we are scoring goals we are the best attack in the league and no one can say we need a striker. It depends on the form of the team and I think we’re happy with the team we have.”

There are still nine days left until the close of the January transfer window, so a lot can still happen. Chelsea are still alive in four different competitions- UEFA Champions League, race for Premier League top four, FA Cup and the League Cup. Thus, it wouldn’t hurt to build up reinforcements in the attack, add more depth, and have additional bodies for the added workload.

Of course, it’s not up to Eden Hazard whether or not the west London side decides to make a buy for another centre forward.
