Extremely in form Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic will get a chance for some rest and relaxation this international break. It’s well deserved too, and the 21-year-old American only had a few days of break in between the Gold Cup tournament this summer with the USMNT and reporting to Blues training camp.
And Pulisic’s last tour of international duty, in October, didn’t work out too well for both himself and his national team. However, it’s ancient history now as he’s got five goals in his last three games. He joins ex-Chelsea and current Liverpool star Mo Salah as the only Premier League players with five goals and five assists this season across all competitions.
He’s definitely earned a break right now. Speaking to the media ahead of today’s USA training session, Stars and Stripes head coach Gregg Berhalter confirmed that Pulisic will not take part in the next two matches.
“Christian is officially at this stage ruled out. We just got that information. This was a collaborative decision with the club. looking after the best interest of the player,” he said.
“These decisions are always difficult because this group and the coaching staff want nothing more than to have Christian here, but it was a risk we weren’t willing to take at this time.”
Pulisic will miss out on the U.S. CONCACAF Nations League games against Canada and Cuba.
