Chelsea FC Acquire Defender Davide Zappacosta from Torino

Happy summer transfer window deadline day everybody. While we await the outcome of the Fernando Llorente situation (apparently Tottenham are now interested in acquiring the Swansea City striker as well), Chelsea FC closed a deal to acquire a new defender, and he’s one who’s worked Chelsea’s manager before.

Torino and Italy right-back Davide Zappacosta is on his way to west London, according to multiple outlets today.

Sky Sports has the scoop, writing that: “The 25-year old has agreed to move to Stamford Bridge for a reported £23m, plus add-ons, where he will link up again with Antonio Conte – who selected the defender for Italy in 2016.”

Zappacosta joined Torino from Atalanta in 2015, for the sum of five million Euro. With the Granata now poised to sell him for 25 million, it looks like a huge payoff for their investment from two years ago. During his time with Torino, Zappacosta has made 58 Serie A appearances. Zappacosta is expected to compete with Victor Moses for the right wing-back spot at Chelsea. The Blues originally sought out Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for that role, but the Ox wasn’t interested in playing that position, and hence nixed the Chelsea move, in order to join Liverpool instead.
