Chelsea Boss Frank Lampard Provides Mason Mount Injury Update

Chelsea lost more than just a Champions League match to Valencia tonight. The 1-0 setback at home saw promising young goal scorer Mason Mount leave very early after getting hurt.

“He’s got an ankle injury but we don’t know how bad it is. We’ll have to assess it in the next 48 hours to see the scale of the injury,” said Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, who was making his UCL debut. “It was a shame because he started the game well and it meant we had to make the change early on.”

When Mason Mount left injured, Pedro, not Christian Pulisic (who has now not played since before the international break) came on. So it will be a couple days until we learn the status of Mount, who has been a revelation since moving up from the Championship (the academy graduate went out on loan and played under Lampard at Derby County last season).

However, the real story here was opportunity missed, as Chelsea out shot Valencia by a significant margin, and Ross Barkley was a top trending term on the internet due to his missed penalty kick.

“We shouldn’t lose the game. Clearly,” Lampard told the media after the game.

“We had a fair few chances and then the penalty, which we miss. We have to keep our heads up.”

“There is a long way to go and this is a lesson that teams at this level can hurt you.”
