Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger gave big time praise Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy just days before the Foxes striker strives for history. Last Saturday, Vardy matched Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record of consecutive games with a goal, opening a 3–0 win over Newcastle United. Will Vardy break it versus Van Nistelrooy’s former team Manchester United on Saturday? We’ll see.
In the meantime, Wenger compared Vardy to his own scorer Alexis Sanchez. And compared both players to LIONS!
Wenger told reporters, in response to a question about Alexis Sanchez’s style of play:
“His style is very explosive and a very committed style. Vardy is a bit similar. They go when they go. They are like the lion; he has to catch the animal in the first 200 metres. If he doesn’t get there, after [that] he’s dead. They are these kind of killers. When they go, it is to kill and after they have to stop.”
Wow! Wenger was very poetic with his extensive praise there.
Perhaps Wenger is trying to butter up Vardy in anticipation of a winter transfer window buy? There’s been talk that Arsenal, as well as Chelsea and Manchester United, are interested in making a move for the Foxes scoring sensation. We’re moving closer to the opening of the January window, and that means we’re going to hear a lot of rumors about the big clubs potentially swopping on Vardy. Whether that transfer talk is legitimate or not is another story.
Nevertheless, the narratives will be out there, as United Manager Louis van Gaal even received a Vardy transfer acquisition question at his prematch press conference today. The Dutchman handled it in typical Van Gaal fashion.
