Saturday brought an update on the status of Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah, who suffered what has been deemed a muscular injury last night while on international duty with Egypt. Salah hobbled off in the 88′ of the Pharoahs’ 4-1 win over Swaziland in an Africa Group of Nations qualifier.

Saturday saw the release of a statement from the Egyptian Football Association that indicated Salah’s leaving the national side, and returning to his club.

Although the forward’s injury is not deemed serious, it is serious enough to keep him sidelined for Tuesday’s return fixture in Swaziland.

“Javier Aguirre decided to allow Salah to return back to Liverpool to give him extra rest, as medical scans revealed that getting him ready for Tuesday’s match would be difficult,” reads the statement from the EFA.

Liverpool certainly do have a fitness concern to be sweating over a week from today when they take on Huddersfield Town in Premier League competition. Given that the Terriers are one of the weakest sides in the league, residing near the bottom of the table, perhaps it might just be in the best interests of Mohamed Salah and the club that he be rested for this fixture.
