As if Ohio State Buckeyes Coach Jim Tressel gedidn’t look bad enough today. The Georgia Bulldogs are making him look even shadier. Maybe this is why the SEC has won the last six college football national championships. They’re even better at cheating/handling cheating than the Big Ten.
Exactly unlike the Sweater Vest, when they found out about five violations the school committed (mostly of a secondary nature) all originating from the recruitment of 5-star defensive end prospect Ray Drew, they reported it immediately. Maybe Tressel’s shame inspired UGA to move faster on this?
From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
UGA had to report five NCAA rules violations to the SEC as a result of Drew’s Jan. 28 news conference at Thomas County Central High School. Drew, a five-star recruiting prospect, announced that day he was committing to the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-5, 250-pound defensive end has since signed a national letter-of-intent with UGA.
Georgia Athletic Director Greg McGarity detailed the violations in a March 4 letter sent to SEC Commissioner Mike Slive. That letter was obtained by the AJC through an open records request.
“The University of Georgia (UGA) is reporting an institutional violation of NCAA Bylaws . . . within our program,” McGarity wrote in the letter.
The Bulldogs still face possible sanctions from both the NCAA and the SEC.
