Torii-Hunter-Jr

Texas wide receiver Torii Hunter Jr. adds his name to the Notre Dame football recruiting list for 2013. You obviously recognize that name, as he’s the son of major-league baseball outfielder Torii Hunter, now with the Detroit Tigers and formerly with Minnesota Twins (1997-2007) and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (2008-2012)

Hunter, Torii Jr. (WR, 6-0, 180, Prosper, Texas, Prosper)–Ranked 95th player nationally on ESPN 300 list, 181st on Rivals 250 list, 21st among WRs on Rivals.com list He was also ranked 41st among wide receivers on Scout 300. Hunter Jr. looks to follow in the line of stellar ND receivers like Rocket Ismail, Tim Brown, Golden Tate, Michael Floyd and Jeff Samardzjia. And like Samardzjia, and his famous father, Hunter Jr. plays baseball quite well. In high school, he hit .393 with six home runs, 27 RBI and 13 stolen bases as junior outfielder

It’s another loaded class for Brian Kelly, and Hunter Jr. is certainly “a get.” But the jewel of the 4th rated ND class is Indiana linebacker Jaylon Smith.

He’s the winner of 2012 Butkus Award presented by Pro Football Weekly to top high school linebacker in the country . Also the first-team linebacker on the Parade and USA Today All-America squad . He’s ranked seventh player nationally on ESPN 300 list, 18th on MaxPreps/Tom Lemming Top 100 list, fifth on 247Sports list of top 247 players, third on Rivals 250 list, ranked first on Rivals.com list of outside linebackers, ranked third overall and first among outside linebackers on Scout 300 by Scout.com. In essence he’s supposed to be the next Manti Te’o, only without the catfishing, and fake dead internet girlfriend shenanigans.
