The legal team of Tim Tebow sent a cease and desist letter to a company that created a t-shirt with a remixed New York Jets logo with a Jesus-friendly theme. As you can see above, “NY Jets” is transformed to “MY JESUS.”
According to a Yahoo! Sports report, Tebow’s attorneys said “the merchandise makes it appear as if Mr. Tebow actually endorses Cubby Tees and its products.”
In this landmark case on the issue of separation of church and shirt, Cubby tees claims on their website that “This fun design is not officially endorsed by New York’s backup quarterback or the Son of God, but plays off the themes of Tebow’s faith and his new team – borrowing from the J-E-T-S to promote J-E-S-U-S, with a fish for a football…We don’t take sides on the field or in the hereafter — we just try to make fans happy, and this shirt should fit Tebow followers.”
All I’ll say is this, the Jets should be the one sending the C&D, cuz this logo really looks like copyright issues.
