On the eve of the beginning of their 2019-20 European campaign, Manchester United announced a five year contract extension for central defender Victor Lindelof.

The Swedish centre back, who partners with Harry Maguire (the most expensive defender in history) to comprise United’s first choice center half pairing, is now inked to the team until 2024. According to a report from The Mirror las month, Lindelof’s new contract is now worth around about $187,000 per week, a double your money deal that includes an option for a one-year-extension.

“Since the day I arrived at United it has felt like home,” Lindelof is quoted in the official announcement post.

“I have grown significantly both as a player and as a person in the last two years and for that I am grateful to everyone at the club for their help and support. I love playing football and my aim now is to help the team to win trophies and repay the fans for their unrivaled support.”

Victor Lindelof was the first summer signing in 2017, and his initial year at Old Trafford was certainly up and down. He has since settled in, starting 30 times last year and going the full 90 in all five games thus far this term.

Lindelof, as well as most of the first team regulars, will almost certainly sit out tomorrow night’s UEL clash at home versus Astana. Expect a big squad rotation, with a lot of youngsters seeing action. The Red Devils are back in league action on Sunday, when they’ll face West Ham United at the London Stadium.
