Bayern Munich Striker Robert Lewandowski is being linked with a London Premier League big six club again, but this time it’s on the west side of town, not the north.
The high scoring Polish international had been linked with a move to Arsenal this past summer, as a potential Alexis Sanchez replacement, but it never came close to actually materializing, and thus the Sanchez sale to Manchester City that had been in discussion collapsed.
Now one of Arsenal’s main rivals, Chelsea, could end up being the landing spot. According to NBC Sports:
Neil Ashton is reporting that Chelsea have moved to the front of the queue for Robert Lewandowski.
Bayern Munich’s star striker, 29, changed his agent to Pini Zahavi last week amid plenty of speculation that he’s angling for a move away from the Bundesliga’s reigning champs as Real Madrid, PSG and others circle the star who is contracted to Bayern until 2021.
Chelsea have struggled to replace the prolific goal scoring of Diego Costa, attempting to fill the void with Alvaro Morata, who hasn’t worked out (to say the least). Morata, who’s been plagued by injuries, has sputtered even when healthy, and he’s currently mired in the second worst scoring slump of his career.
As for Lewandowski, he’s scored 29 goals in 32 games across all competitions with Bayern this season, achieving 139 scoring strikes in 181 games for the club that overwhelmingly dominates German football every season. If Robert Lewandowski has another big move left in him, then now is the time. It’s the very definition of “you got to strike while the iron is hot,” as he turns 30 following this summer’s World Cup.
He’s a pretty big deal for both club and country right now. In addition to his heroics that we’ve already mentioned for the Bavarian superpower, he’s getting it done for Poland too. Largely due to his exploits, the White and Reds are reaching some of the highest levels that they have seen in recent years.
Of course, Lewandowski won’t come cheap, and Chelsea will have major competition, but if Bayern are willing to sell, Stamford Bridge are reportedly at the front of the line due to their inside connections.
The report says that Lewandowski’s new agent is tight with Chelsea owner and Russian billionaire oligarch/Vladimir Putin BFF Roman Abramovich.
