Newly acquired striker Alvaro Morata has a lot of room to improve his conditioning said Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte following a 2-1 loss to Inter Milan in their final exhibition friendly of the Asia Tour. The now former Real Madrid man is nowhere near mid-season, in regards to condition, says Conte.

“Morata is starting now and he has to improve his condition a lot,” The Italian said in describing the £60 million acquisition made earlier this month. “He is working very well and has been with us only five days. Today, he tried to do his best, but for sure, he has to improve.”

Morata, who broke the club transfer fee record when he was signed, will play this upcoming season under sky high expectations. He looked really good in his Chelsea debut, as he set up a critical goal. Conte all said in the same press conference that he will use Alvaro Morata in partnership with another striker Michy Batshuayi. The Italian said he must do this out of necessity, not out of luxury.

“Now, it is necessary because we don’t have other players.”
