“These are southwestern toppings!” Homer Simpson exclaimed as a ballpark hot dog gave him the epiphany that he was seeking. That eureka moment helped Homer realize the Albuquerque Isotopes were indeed in the works, with New Mexico’s largest city set to take away his hometown Springfield Isotopes.
During that specific episode of The Simpsons, Homer went on a hunger strike in hopes of exposing the plan, and it led to his getting chained to a pole in the minor league baseball stadium.
Duff (BEER) Corporation, (their CEO is the team owner) gets bored with Homer’s political protest so he then decides to use him as an in game attraction. Eventually they unchain the emaciating Homer and attempt to bribe him with hot dogs. Homer then notices the sauce and that the hot dog wrappers have a new team name and logo – Albuquerque Isotopes.
That was fiction, but there is a real life Albuquerque Isotopes baseball team, as they’re the AAA affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.
They also have a real life spicy ballpark menu item.
The team claims to have the “Spiciest Burger in Baseball,” as they have now unveiled the “Radiation Burger” at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The promotional write-up states: “This one-of-a-kind Radiation Burger features 1/3-pound Black Angus Burger topped with Ghost Pepper Cheese, Fried Jalapeno Caps, and drizzled with a Spicy Sriracha Aioli. It retails for $8.25. Fire extinguisher not included.”
