The shooting in Aurora, Colorado has been a tragic story. The opening premier of The Dark Knight Rises was ruined by one man who went on a rampage, killing 12 individuals and hurting dozens more. Since then, the killer has been apprehended and is awaiting trial and sentencing. A lot of people have reached out to the Aurora community, including a man everyone knows.
Kevin Garnett reached out to Aurora via his Twitter account. On July 21st, Garnett tweeted “For every R-T this gets, $1 will be donated to the 5 sets of kids who’s parents were killed in the James Holmes, Colorado #TheatreShooting“. That tweet created tens of thousands of retweets (96,951 to be exact right now). In one day, that tweet donated a total of $65,000 to the victims of the shooting.
Garnett is known more for his fiery temper and trash-talking on the court, but what people don’t know is that he is truly a great person. While with the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2006, Garnett received the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award for “outstanding service and dedication to the community.” He gives his heart every night he puts on a jersey and anything less, he doesn’t accept.
While the money Garnett donated won’t bring back the victims of a horrific act, it will help ease some pain. Just knowing that people, even if they are out in Boston, do care about what happened in this small Colorado community. You can follow Garnett on Twitter @RealKG5
May all the family members involved find peace when the time is right. God bless.
