Cincinnati Bengals stadium to host Ohio St spring game

The 2013 Ohio State Spring football Game will be played April 13 in Cincinnati at Paul Brown Stadium, officials from the Ohio State Department of Athletics, Cincinnati Bengals and Hamilton County announced today.

As you well know, people in central Ohio have no life, so this scrimmage, this opportunity to see third-stringers battle one another routinely draws 80-90,000 people; reflecting the dysfunctional dependency that people there have for college football. They’re even willing to pay for this because they have nothing else going on in their lives.

Ohio State stays undefeated despite struggles on both sides of the ball

In spite of themselves, the Buckeyes are still undefeated on the young season. Coach Urban Meyer narrowed the problems to “offense, defense and special teams,” expressed his disappointment and said his players have to get dramatically better before opening Big Ten play at No. 21 Michigan State on Saturday.

Despite the lackluster efforts on all three phases, Ohio State still beat UAB 29-15. The offense has been too reliant on Braxton Miller, who came leading the Big Ten in rushing. He ran for two more scores today, but the team itself struggled versus a unit known to give up 44 points per game.

Ohio State football names their captains

Coach Urban Meyer announced the captains at a team meeting Sunday night.

“Announcing who are team captains is one of the great honors I get to do as head coach,” Meyer said. “We had a number of guys get votes. This is a really good group of seniors who I am very proud to have leading this team.”

Representing four different states, they are:

Urban Meyer gives most BS answer ever at Media Day

Making an icon of a college football coach, having Joe Paterno bigger than life and regarded as a demigod- that’s a big reason for what happened at Penn State. Jerry Sandusky was protected by Paterno and company because the coach was revered to a super-human extent.

Just like Urban Meyer at Ohio State. Even though he just got to Columbus, the man named after a pope is treated as the Pope of Ohio. Even the Buckeyes media are complicit to this.

But one guy at Big Ten media day asked the smartest question I’ve heard all day:

Ohio State star tailback to miss 10 weeks

Jordan Hall is a senior tailback who is expected to be a big part of the Buckeyes offense this season. He and Carlos Hyde will contend for the bulk of the carries. But that’s all changed now that Hall will be out of commission for approximately 10 weeks while recovering from surgery Friday to an injured foot.

Ohio State gives Urban Meyer $4 Million per, $200K more than Tressel

Ohio State released the information specifics on its contract with Urban Meyer today; it involves discussion on specific requirements for reporting violations of NCAA rules. (More on this coming later) It also is now public that Meyer will make $4,000,000 per year guaranteed with other incentives.

That’s $200,000 more than what the Buckeyes paid Jim Tressel. The language regarding violations is interesting, as it’s possible more are on the way given a.) Meyer’s track record at Florida b.) the fact that the college football program is on probation this year, and is ineligible for a bowl game.

81,000 take in Ohio State football spring game: stats, news and notes

Ohio Stadium hosted the Ohio State Spring Game yesterday and 81,112 people showed up. That’s even more than Alabama, or any of the SEC teams this year. And those places ABSOLUTELY LIVE for college football. Even the preseason exhibition kind.

However, the Buckeyes drew even more fans than any of the Bible Belt powerhouse programs- which tells you just how utterly insane people in Columbus truly are. But enough judging and condescension, let’s get to the football takeaways from today’s Scarlet and Gray game.

Ohio State spring game rosters set: scarlet vs. grey

ohio state buckeyes cheerleaders

Ohio State’s football Spring Game takes place Saturday afternoon at Ohio Stadium beginning at 1:30 p.m. Scarlet head coach Tom Herman and Gray coach Luke Fickell led their respective staffs in a draft. They refuse to tell us which player was the first overall pick, for whatever reason.

Braxton Miller will quarterback Herman’s Scarlet team and he’ll work behind an offensive line that includes four players – Jack Mewhort, Corey Linsley, Marcus Hall and Reid Fragel – who have worked with the first team this spring. Johnathan Hankins, Ryan Shazier and Travis Howard are among the key Scarlet defenders.

Ohio State football has sold 40,000 tickets to spring scrimmage already!

For most college football teams, the annual spring game is free. It is after all an intrasquad scrimmage, an exhibition game. But most schools aren’t Ohio State, where Buckeyes football is a crazy cult with an insane following overly obsessed with the sport. It’s not a game or entertainment to the BUCKNUTS out there; who have no problem paying $7 each in advance and $15 on game day (cash only) to watch the team play against itself.

As of Monday, they already had sold 40,000 tickets. So that’s $280,000 gross for a preseason scrimmage. Don’t be surprised if they get 60-70,000 to the horseshoe for this.

(UPDATE: As of Wednesday, the number was up to 46,000)
