Disappointing wouldn’t be the exact word to describe Team USA’s first half against and over-matched Tunisia team. Pathetic or embarrassing would be more like it. Thankfully Team USA’s second unit, led by Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Love, helped them cruise to an easy victory in the end.

It’s nice to have superstars like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Dwyane Wade and Derrick Rose on your team. But you can’t have a team of 12 superstars. It’s not possible, at all. You need tough guys on your team, guy that will help motivate their teammates to take their game to another level or guys that will play limited minutes and give unlimited effort. I have had it with NBA officials in the playoffs. The league is softening up to protect stars and I don’t like it one bit. It’s hard to watch a game when there are nearly 50 fouls called per game. The playoffs are about letting defensive players get away with more, not about giving the stars more “star treatment”. I understand that the NBA is a star-driven league. It’s easier to fire a coach than it is to trade a star player. But what I have seen so far has been ridiculous and I have a feeling that it’s only going to get worse.

Our resident NBA nerd David Kay is on vacation this week; in a much warmer place. However, being out of the country hasn’t stopped him from being on top of the news. He’s got a lot to say on what’s been going on with the league this week.
New York Knicks sign C Tyson Chandler to 4-year, $58 million contract
The Knicks land one of the most coveted free agents and add a true big man to compliment forwards Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony. Chandler will finally provide New York with a defensive minded big man who can rebound, block shots, and fill up space in the middle, and also allow Amare to stay at his natural power forward position.

Welcome back, NBA.
And welcome back, Indiana Pacers.
The early-morning agreement Nov. 26 between the league and the players’ union ensures the highest level of professional basketball will be played — albeit under a shortened schedule.
The great news for the Pacers — one of the NBA’s small-market franchises — is that this tentative collective bargaining agreement, which will give players roughly 51.2 percent of basketball-related revenue, will allow teams from any market to be competitive in free agency and, by extension, on the basketball court.
It’s been way too long, folks. Let’s get to examining what the Pacers can do before the condensed season commences and what kind of team they’ll be in 2011-12.
