Optimism actually surrounds Minnesota Timberwolves this off-season

40 games into the 2011-2012 NBA season and the Minnesota Timberwolves were actually competing for a Western Conference playoff spot.  An injury to Ricky Rubio derailed the T-Wolves surprising start to the season but proved that there is reason for optimism in Minnesota and that the team doesn’t need to make any drastic moves this off-season.  Still, a few upgrades could help them get back into post-season next year.

Applying the Allan Houston Rule to the NBA Northwest Division Teams in 2011

One of the topics expected to be discussed during the NBA Lockout is the possible revival of The Allan Houston Rule.  When a new CBA was agreed upon in 2005, it allowed NBA teams a one time opportunity to waive a player and not have his contract count against the luxury tax teams have to pay if their team salary exceeds a pre-determined amount set by the league.  The released player becomes a free agent but his salary still gets paid and counts against his former team’s salary cap.  Ironically enough, Allan Houston was not a victim of The Allan Houston Rule.  The Knicks instead decided to waive Jerome Williams.

Melo blockbuster lands Timberwolves young, athletic Anthony Randolph

The New York Knicks finally got their guy.

Late Tuesday night the Denver Post reported that the Knicks acquired superstar forward Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets in a blockbuster three-team trade.

The Knicks receive a package based around Anthony, but also includes veteran point guard Chauncey Billups.

For the Nuggets, their package is based around emerging point guard Raymond Felton, up-and-coming wing Wilson Chandler, and Italian wing and budding star Danilo Gallinari.

The third team involved in this deal is the Minnesota Timberwolves. [Read more…]
