#25 Stanford Cardinal: College Football 77 in 77

After two years up at the top rung in college football, the Stanford Cardinal are likely to take a step down. Probably not a BCS appearance in the works for the trees this year, but they’ll still stand tall with a winning season. It all starts with trying to replace Andrew Luck who’s now the franchise QB with the Indianapolis Colts.

They have the Pac-12’s best returning rusher in Stepfan Taylor, so he’ll be the focus of the offense this year; while they break in a new signal caller in either Brett Nottingham or Josh Nunes.

Stanford and Northwestern initiate football series; not academic quiz bowl

stanford-cheerleaders

Think of it like an Academic Quiz Bowl, except on the gridiron. Northwestern continues college football series with all the schools across the nation with similar elite graduation rates and exceedingly stringent entrance requirements. They’ve had recent home-and-homes with Vanderbilt, Duke and Rice.

They have a similar series slated with Notre Dame, and now Stanford.

#4 Stanford Crushes #22 Notre Dame: (Andrew) Luck of the non-Irish

andrew_luck

Two years ago Toby Gerhart, now with the Minnesota Vikings then with the Stanford Cardinal, ran for over 200 yards on Notre Dame. The performance moved him up the Heisman Trophy pecking order, and he lost (by the slimmest margin of all time) to current member of the New Orleans Saints then member of the Alabama Crimson Tide Mark Ingram.

Tonight Andrew Luck, the mortal lock to the be the #1 pick in the NFL Draft in April intended to stake his claim for the most prestigious trophy in college football by exploiting the Fighting Irish. But there was no luck of the Irish. And it actually wasn’t luck of the Cardinal either. It was skill and talent of the Cardinal: Luck, Colby Fleener, Stepfan Taylor etc.

#6 Stanford Cardinal-USC Trojans: Brutally Honest Game Preview

usc song girls

Stanford vs. USC, sounds like a route to me? Well, maybe not. It’s the Cardinal’s last actual tune-up before their epic clash with the Oregon Ducks on November 12th. Forget Oregon St, they’ll roll over them.

No, the real reason I choose this Pac-12 contest for BHGP is the NFL Draft implications! I’m a draftnik, a mock nerd, so when I see the top pick in the draft taking on the #2 QB! Not to mention there’s at least two, maybe 3-4 more prospects in the this game that could go in the top ten-twenty, let the fun begin!

#3 Stanford Cardinal: College Football 77 in 77

It was a huge offseason down on The Farm. Coach Jim Harbaugh left for the San Francisco 49ers and their star player very unexpectedly returned. Why did Stanford Cardinal superstar QB Andrew Luck pass up the guaranteed glory and millions of dollars that comes with being the #1 pick in the NFL Draft to return to school and work more on his architecture degree?

Only the most inside of insiders in Palo Alto and the Luck family truly know the answer to that. Why did Harbaugh leave for the NFL now instead of waiting a year to leave with Luck? It all adds up to a year that has a lot of transition and familiarity at the same. And this paradox could equal a conference title and perhaps something bigger?

Notre Dame Does Not Need Big Ten Expansion

Notre Dame Fighting Irish Leprechaun Logo

The identity of the Notre Dame football program always has been one-of-a-kind. So now the question posed to university administrators, alumni, fans and athletes, “Does being independent in football weigh enough as part of our tradition?” The answer could determine how stubborn the Irish can be toward joining the Big Ten Conference — and all of college football is waiting.
