The Los Angeles Kings are good, lucky (maybe), and fancy stats royalty. No matter the situation, they find a way to come out on top. It’s amazing to watch and frustrating to comprehend.

For two consecutive seasons, the Los Angeles Kings have led the NHL in close-score Fenwick, which measures a team’s share of all unblocked shots put on either net during a game in relation to time of possession. While Fenwick and fancy stat sibling Corsi are by no means a be-all end-all when determining a team’s dominance, they are really good indicators for a sport in its grassroots stage of advanced statistics. Columbus Blue Jackets Trade Rick Nash To New York Rangers

 

After months of will he or won’t he, the Columbus Blue Jackets have finally pulled the trigger on a Rick Nash trade, sending him to the New York Rangers.  The Blue Jackets will get forwards Brandon Dubinsky and Artem Anisimov, defenseman Tim Erixon, and a the Rangers’ 2013 first round pick.  For more info about the trade, and how this will affect both teams going forward, continue after the jump.

Final 2012 Mock NHL Entry Draft

 

While the Los Angeles Kings, and their millions of fans who just jumped on the bandwagon, celebrate the team’s first Stanley Cup championship, the other 29 teams in the league are gearing up for next season.  The top priority of these teams:  the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.  The draft takes place June 22 and 23 from Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, PA.  With the Edmonton Oilers winning the draft lottery, they will select the first pick for the third straight year, the first time since the Quebec Nordiques of 1989-91.  Who will the Oilers take? Columbus trading Rick Nash: it’s complicated!

It’s expected that the Columbus Blue Jackets will trade their only true All-Star player and face of the franchise Rick Nash on or before the upcoming NHL Entry Draft on June 22nd.  Rumored trade discussions and speculated trading partners have been flying almost as quickly as trying to keep the hottest of DVDs on a Blockbuster ™store shelf.

And while some pundits and local observers believe this long-speculated trade of Nash is a forgone conclusion and will go down before the draft, I believe that doing so is a lot more complicated than that and I’ll explain why.

NBC stops NJ Devils and NY Rangers from having viewing parties

Hockey fever for the Hudson River series? Ratings numbers say not so much. The New York Rangers vs. the New Jersey Devils NHL Eastern Conference Finals series is drawing low ratings. So low that NBC Sports is banning the teams from holding viewing parties in the visiting team’s Arena while the game is on.

How the NHL Can Increase Its Fan Base

Coming off the Winter Classic on January 2nd, NHL executives are looking to capitalize on the increased viewership of the novelty game and build on it. The contest had nearly fifty thousand fans in attendance along with a national audience on NBC. The Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers provided an entertaining afternoon of action culminating with a penalty shot near the end of regulation.

2011 MOCK NHL ENTRY DRAFT (Draft Day Edition)


The day is finally here!  The 2011 NHL Entry Draft is tonight, live from the Xcel Energy Center in the heart of St. Paul, Minnesota.  Thursday saw the start of what could be the first of many big time deals to come, when the Philadelphia Flyers made multiple trades to reshape their roster and create cap space to sign Ilya Bryzgalov to a huge contract.  I will be on hand to see all the picks go down, as well as all the deals that will go down while teams are on the clock.  Who will go where?  Who else will make a bold move like the Flyers, Kings, and Blue Jackets?  Find out with the final mock NHL draft from The Sports Bank.  For all the first round picks, click on through past the jump.
