Team Slovakia hockey preview: Somewhere in the middle

February 6, 2014 By jeff-hicks

Team Slovakia hockey

A little over half of Team Slovakia hockey is playing in the NHL, yet the talent level is somewhere in between great and mediocre. The Hossa brothers Marian and Marcel accent the skill of the team, but their skill levels are on opposite ends of the spectrum for Slovakia. Slovakia made a miracle run to the Final Four in 2010 before losing to Canada in the semifinals. To make … [Read more...] about Team Slovakia hockey preview: Somewhere in the middle

Flashback: Coyotes Raffi Torres hit on Blackhawks Hossa (video)

February 7, 2013 By paulmbanks

The Chicago Blackhawks Marian Hossa took a nasty illegal hit from the Phoenix Coyotes' Raffi Torres in last year's NHL playoffs. The brutal  that left him motionless on the ice. As you can see after the jump, Torres left his feet for the hit so he’s likely going to face a suspension. He's a repeat offender, so he could face 10 games. Brendan Shanahan suspended Torres before … [Read more...] about Flashback: Coyotes Raffi Torres hit on Blackhawks Hossa (video)

With Duncan Keith suspended, Blackhawks positive momentum gone?

March 24, 2012 By paulmbanks

The Chicago Blackhawks have been the National Hockey League’s (NHL’s) second hottest team, behind only the scintillatingly-hot Pittsburgh Penguins who have sported a 13-0-1 record recently.  The Blackhawks have blistered their way up the NHL’s Western Conference standings at an 8-1-1 clip, including a recent 5-0-0 run, all of this being done without the services of their … [Read more...] about With Duncan Keith suspended, Blackhawks positive momentum gone?

The NHL All-Star Game, as is the case with the rest of professional sports' mid-season clashes, is often derided as being a meaningless exhibition that people take way too seriously, but for those fans that can appreciate the fun that the players have with it, it is actually a cool spectacle. … [Read more...] about Patrick Kane Wins Shootout Contest With Superman Homage

Sunday’s Three Stars: Shaw, Stalberg Shine in Win Over Sharks

Patrick Sharp has been out of the Chicago Blackhawks' lineup for the past four games, but it hasn't slowed them down one bit. Buoyed by performances from guys up and down the roster, the Hawks have been scoring goals, playing solid defense, and most importantly, picking up points. This weekend was no different, as they got a point yesterday against the Detroit Red Wings, a team … [Read more...] about Sunday’s Three Stars: Shaw, Stalberg Shine in Win Over Sharks

Blackhawks’ Late Surge Gains Pity Point, But Wings Prevail

January 14, 2012 By paulmbanks

Some sporting events have momentum swings that seem to occur in nearly every minute of action, but the tilt between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks was not one of those events. Through the first 40 minutes of Saturday afternoon's matinee between the Red Wings and Blackhawks, there was little doubt as to who the better team was on the ice. Sure, the Hawks got a … [Read more...] about Blackhawks’ Late Surge Gains Pity Point, But Wings Prevail

Blackhawks First Semester Report Card: Serious Cup Contender?

January 8, 2012 By paulmbanks

duncan-keith

With Friday's 4-0 loss at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche, the Chicago Blackhawks reached the 41-game mark of their season, meaning that half their campaign has come to an end. While the old adage of "time flies when you're having fun" certainly can apply to a big chunk of those games, the same cannot be said about the way the Hawks ended this stretch of … [Read more...] about Blackhawks First Semester Report Card: Serious Cup Contender?

Changes Abound for Blackhawks As Patrick Kane Moves to Wing

December 2, 2011 By paulmbanks

After what can only be described as a less than stellar homecoming on Tuesday, the Chicago Blackhawks will be sporting a way different look on offense when the New York Islanders come to town Friday night. The Patrick Kane at center experiment, largely heralded as a success in the early portion of the season, will come to an end, as the 23-year old will be moved back to his … [Read more...] about Changes Abound for Blackhawks As Patrick Kane Moves to Wing

Send in the Clowns: Blackhawks Circus Trip Preview

November 16, 2011 By paulmbanks

Even though the Bulls, the Chicago Blackhawks' usual co-tenant of the United Center, are currently locked out as NBA owners and players haggle over who will get a bigger piece of the money pie, the Hawks will still be kicked out of the arena for the next several weeks as the circus comes to town. The annual circus trip has always been a make or break proposition for the Hawks, … [Read more...] about Send in the Clowns: Blackhawks Circus Trip Preview
