Packers blow past the Minnesota Vikings despite Joe Webb-mania

Erik Walden sack of Joe Webb

Hours before the highly-anticipated playoff meeting between the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings it was announced starting quarterback Christian Ponder was inactive with an elbow injury.

Enter back-up Joe Webb who was actually trending on twitter for much of Wild-Card Saturday.

What started as good trending (“Webb is super fast and runs the read-option, something the Packers haven’t seen”) quickly turned into bad trending when the audience learned Webb cannot throw a football.

Subsequently, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers picked apart the Vikings in a 24-10 win.

Analyzing the Minnesota Vikings Depth Chart

The addition of Donovan McNabb and Michael Jenkins on the offensive side of the ball have been the two most notable positive amendments during the offseason. The most newsworthy departure is undoubtedly the exit by offensive lineman and consistent Pro Bowler Bryant McKinnie.

After taking a look at the depth chart on the team’s official site, it is puzzling to note that Joe Webb has taken a stronghold on the number two quarterback position. All the fans heard on draft day was how smart and crafty Christian Ponder was. It’s hard to fathom that we would be third at this time then if Cam Newton is starting in Carolina. The Auburn product couldn’t even name a play that he liked when prompted. I am shocked that there would be hyperbole surrounding a prospect on draft day!

The 2011 Minnesota Vikings Starting Quarterback is…

There isn’t really a sense in denying the fact that the 2010 NFL season has been an apocolypse for the Minnesota Vikings. After being mere seconds away from a game winning field goal attempt in the NFC Championship Game last January, the downward spiral of the team has been swift and painful.  The explanation for the demise is so multi-faceted that it would be more productive to shove your face into your computer monitor and then spend the next 24 hours tediously putting the screen back together by hand. Instead, let’s look forward at what can be different.

(note: this is being re-run from December 5th, it’s very topical today with that whole McNabb thing)

Analyzing More Quarterback Options for the Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf obviously has his hands full with the situation concerning Mall of America Field. It is not too early, however, to start analyze possibilities at the quarterback position.

We started this exploratory process over a month ago, and you can read our preliminary findings here.

Now, with more evidence coming to light, we continue our potential QB assessment.

Joe Webb has proven thus far that he is extremely talented athletically, but raw. His decision-making ability has been suspect at best. Interim head coach Leslie Frazier is dealing with the game of out, doubtful, or probable with Brett Favre on a weekly basis. This is obviously not a recipe for long term success.

Patrick Herbert is here to give you some options for the club in the offseason.

Tuesday Night was a fine Night for Football, Vikings

It has been over sixty years since the NFL has had a Tuesday night football game. If you asked Minnesota Vikings  head coach Leslie Frazier, I am sure that he would agree to another one next week. That way his team could have a full week to prepare for the Detroit Lions. Instead, they will have only until Sunday before they engage in their last regular season contest at Ford Field on the second of January. Adrian Peterson was able to not only take the field, but perform extremely effectively in his twenty two carries. His 118 yards attained dwarfed the 44 gained by his counterpart LeSean McCoy. Although, the latter did only have thirteen carries.

Brett Favre is Coming Completely Unraveled

jenn_sterger_wrigley_field

The selfishness of Brett Favre has come to the forefront this week. His tone has certainly changed once some excrement has hit the fan surrounding him and his Minnesota Vikings teammates. The Jenn Sterger case is progressing briskly at this juncture and NFL executives have made comments that a judgment is quickly on the horizon. The team is out of contention and they have essentially lost the advantage of hosting two home games these past couple weeks.

Favre’s streak of 297 straight starts recently ended at Ford Field. After this loss and no further chance to make the playoffs, Favre has hinted at numbness in his hand and a recently sprained shoulder. The team has implied they will soon place him on the injured reserve list to free up a roster spot.
