How close was Jim Harbaugh to getting traded by the 49ers?

Jim Harbaugh

This could come as surprise news, but it seems that it was close to happening. Last week there were many reports suggesting that the San Francisco 49ers could have get rid of Jim Harbaugh by trading him for high draft picks to the Cleveland Browns. Luckily for the 49ers fans and for the entire organization, nothing happened and they still have their coach, one of the best in the entire league.

Before analyzing why the Cleveland Browns and the San Francisco 49ers maintained conversations about a possible deal involving Jim Harbaugh, let’s see what the coach means to the red and gold. [Read more…]

The Chicago Ties to Super Bowl XLVII

Harbaugh and Ditka

You know what would be really cool? For the Chicago tie to the Super Bowl to be that the Bears would be in it.

You know what’s not really cool? Reality.

The Bears are on the outside looking in. Instead of preparing for an epic battle in New Orleans, most players are probably busy handing out Super Bowl party invites.

And even though some of those players are living it up in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl festivities, at the end of the day, no one really gives a rat’s ass about the Pro Bowl.

That’s actually a proven scientific fact. Google it.

Colin Kaepernick sets NFL records in win over the Packers

Colin Kaepernick vs. Packers

San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh went from potential idiot to genius in a matter of a few hours after his hand-picked quarterback shredded the NFL record books in the divisional round of the playoffs.

Second-year guy Colin Kaepernick who resembles a human-like gazelle on the football field ran for a NFL-playoff record 183 rushing yards on 16 carries against the Green Bay Packers. As a whole, the 49ers racked up an astounding 581 of offense in the 45-31 win.

For a team who dedicated the entire off-season to improving their defense, it has to be a tough loss for the Packers.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers: Brutally Honest Preview

The start of the NFL season can’t get any better for fans of the Green Bay Packers or San Francisco 49ers. It’s the league’s premier offense (Green Bay, 35.0 points per game in 2011) up against the league’s premier defense (San Francisco, 14.3 points per game given up in 2011).

At Lambeau Field, the Packers have won their last eight games against the 49ers, can they make it nine straight?

Best Playoff Match-ups for Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are in the NFL playoffs for the first time this millennium.

This is a remarkable accomplishment considering the team was winless just three seasons ago. The absence of Matt Millen in the front office certainly has expedited the process of turning the culture of the organization around. While it’s certain that the club will play in the wild card round, the opponent isn’t for certain yet.

The teams that are in the mix are the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, and the Dallas Cowboys.

49ers Jim Harbaugh: Already Coach of the Year in the NFL

Everything has seemed to come up roses for the San Francisco 49ers this season, and more specifically Jim Harbaugh. He was able to leapfrog to the NFL and not even have to relocate from the metropolitan area where he coached college. His squad had minimal expectations coming into the season and now it looks like the second best group in the NFC.

Offense sells tickets and defense wins championships. If this adage holds true, it seems like San Francisco is on the right side of the spectrum and the Green Bay Packers better start making some adjustments. The 49ers have allowed just under fifteen points per contest. That is phenomenal considering that we are talking about the half of the schedule with the better weather. Defensive tackle Justin Smith and linebacker Patrick Willis are consistent performers for San Francisco. Their quality play has catapulted the unit into one of the elite groups in the entire league.

How the 49ers Upset the Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have played their last two games in the friendly confines of Ford Field. Their current record of five wins and one loss is second only to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North. The contest in Detroit was a swinging pendulum throughout Sunday afternoon.

The numerous false starts were an aberration for the 49ers thus far this season. They were a team that had the tag of not beating themselves. Jim Harbaugh has instilled some discipline with the club that previously had a culture of losing within the organization. His fiery nature has inspired quarterback Alex Smith. Before this season, Smith was often put into the same category as JaMarcus Russell as a first pick bust. Harbaugh is one of the few head coaches who can relate to a starting quarterback on a personal level. He has chosen to take a supportive rather than demeaning role.
