Welcome to The Sports Bank’s third annual college basketball season preview series.  Two years we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  Last year, we were slightly more aggressive and expanded to 111 teams in 111 days and will do so again as we look ahead to the 2012-2013 season.

We will rank the 75 power conference teams and top 36 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, transfers, incoming freshmen, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

Transfer U. loses their top three scorers from last season’s team that made a huge turnaround and surprised many by making the NCAA Tournament.  Fred Hoiberg welcomes two new transfers to his Iowa State Cyclones team as they try to repeat their success from a year ago.

Royce White Iowa State

Royce White is headed for the NBA. He almost gave up hoops during his college basketball career. Originally committed to the Minnesota Golden Gophers, he never played for Tubby Smith. He then headed for the Big 10 island of misfit toys, Iowa State- where he found his groove.

Welcome to The Sports Bank’s second annual college basketball season preview series.  Last year we looked at 99 teams in 99 days.  This year, we are being slightly more aggressive and expanding to 111 teams in 111 days.  We will rank the 74 power conference teams and top 37 mid-majors in reverse power ranking order.  We’ll break down rosters, non-conference schedules, and pick a player to watch for each team.

It has already been an interesting beginning to the Fred Hoiberg era at Iowa State.  Year one was filled with struggles as the Mayor began the resurrection of his former program.  With three Big Ten castoffs becoming eligible this season, the Cyclones should be more competitive in the Big 12.

99 in 99: #97 Iowa State Cyclones

Fred Hoiberg Iowa State

It is day three of our “99 in 99” series previewing a college basketball team every day leading up to the start of the season.  I know what you are thinking, it is WAY too early for this isn’t it?  SHUSH!  It is never too early to start talking college basketball especially you are as big a nerd as I am.

I promise I have nothing against the people or state of Iowa.  I have many friends who are either from the state or currently reside there.  Unfortunately, your major conference state basketball teams will be two of the worst in the country this season.  Iowa drew the 99th ranking, Iowa State earns #97.  Sorry.
