It was an extremely eventful year for Chicago sportscasters. Jim Deshaies replaced Bob Brenly in the booth for Cubs broadcasts after Brenly left to take the Arizona Diamondbacks job.

Sarah Kustok left Comcast Sports Net Chicago for Yes Network. She was replaced by Susanna Collins. White Sox colorman Hawk Harrelson continued to be an intolerable abomination to broadcasting.

Hawk Harrelson’s EPIC anti-umpire rant today (video)

You know what a ridiculous homer and quirky public speaker Chicago White Sox announcer Hawk Harrelson is (see here). That’s not news. And you know how much vitriol he has for the umpires- this isn’t a breaking development either. (See this Joe West rant)

But today, he truly out-did himself in both categories. What happened today versus the Tampa Bay Rays is one of the most entertaining moments of his career. And truly emblematic of who he is.

My hate mail, hostile commenter All-Star Team

Big hat tip to Jenna Myers Karvunidis from the mom blog “High Gloss and Sauce” for the idea on this one. I thought her readership was a special bunch, but I’d take my starting five of hate mailer all-stars and put them up against hers or any other Chicago Now blogger’s group. My group of haters-gonna-hate do it all: foul language, personal attacks, trashing the recently deceased, re-writing recent history, accusing me of elitism (they’re correct to do this last act)- quite a versatile group.

Paul Konerko Already Getting 2011 AL MVP Consideration

Chicago White Sox first baseman and team captain Paul Konerko is starting the 2011 season where he ended 2010, as a cornerstone of the team and offensive juggernaut.

Last week, Konerko was named co-American League Player of the Week with Cleveland’s Asdrubal Cabrera.

After clubbing two homers in Sunday game against the Tampa Rays, Konerko finished the week hitting .417 with three home runs and eight RBI in six games. At that point, he was tied for the AL lead in home runs and RBI, ranked second in slugging percentage (.833) and ranked third in average.

Chicago White Sox September Call-up Possibilities

The 2010 MLB trade deadline has passed and while the Chicago White Sox may have landed another diamond(back) in the rough in Edwin Jackson, the August waiver trade process will define whether or not the White Sox get their much coveted left-handed power bat. Even if the Sox don’t make a trade they could get a boost from an often over-looked source: September roster expansion.
