The Derrick Rose Greatest Hits Collection

What a magical season it has been for the Chicago Bulls, who secured the best overall record in the entire league. And what a 2010-11 it’s been for Derrick Rose, who has become the man-crush of the third largest city in the United States. He is to “us” what pre-2008 Brett Favre was to the entire state of Wisconsin. To quote “Zoolander”….”Hansel- he’s just so hot right now,” perfectly describes Rose’s current Q rating.

Rose made headlines this NBA preseason for saying “why can’t I be the MVP? Why can’t I become the best player in the league?” I was there at Media Day when he said it, and I didn’t understand why everyone made such a big deal out of it. It’s not news-worthy; if you’ve paid close attention to Rose’s talent and ambition, you would have seen his natural progression to this stage. It’s what #1 overall NBA Draft picks are supposed to do.

I’ve been covering Rose’s games and writing about his career extensively these past three years; so the MVP season is no surprise.

With the playoff series versus the Indiana Pacers set to tip off, it’s perfect time to reflect on his greatest hits.

Derrick Rose Worship Getting Really Out of Hand

Last winter, I began to notice that Derrick Rose was becoming to the state of Illinois, the city of Chicago what Brett Favre was to the state of Wisconsin 1994-2008. They were deified, canonized, sacrosanct- deemed incapable of ever doing wrong in any sense. This is a dangerous path people.

I’ll admit I’ve hyped up Derrick Rose as much as possible…as a basketball player. I’ve done everything in my online power to draw cyber attention to the reigning NBA MVP for about four years. But every time I extolled his virtues, it was strictly in a basketball sense. That’s it! So Chicago really needs to take a step back and chillax a minute on the Rose worshiping.

We already have a cautious example to learn from:

Bulls Derrick Rose: New Adidas Commercial (Video)

Derrick Rose Bulls

The Chicago Bulls Derrick Rose has made headlines this NBA preseason for saying essentially “why can’t I be MVP? Why not Derrick Rose becoming the best player in the league?”

Awareness of this video comes to us via Docksquad Sports. The ad features Ken Jeong, and as we all know, anything with the Spanish teacher on “Community”/the L.A.I.R.E King in “Role Models”/crazy naked guy in trunk from “The Hangover” equals pure awesome.

Derrick Rose: “I’m going to Win Multiple Championships”

“Not a repeat, or a three-peat, we’re talking Minimum 8-peat my friend,” that’s the words of the famous Saturday Night Live “Superfan” character from the early ’90s comedic sketches. You remember? “Da Bulls.” “Ditka.” “Polish sauasage.” Those portly fellow had a lot of hubris about the Michael Jordan era Chicago Bulls teams.

That hubris in now showing up in NBA MVP and Bulls superstar point guard Derrick Rose. Check out what he said in Spain over the weekend.

Chicago Bulls Looking For Athletic Wing This Off-Season

Like we are currently seeing in the NFL, the 2011 NBA off-season is up in the air with a lockout looming.  Free agency could be delayed and completely restructured depending on the new agreement reached by the owners and players.  Still, The Sports Bank continues to break down all thirty NBA teams to see what areas they need to address in the off-season.

The Chicago Bulls off coming off a 21-game improvement, had the league MVP in Derrick Rose, and nearly advanced to the NBA Finals before losing to the Miami Heat.  So what can they do this off-season to get over the hump?

Derrick Rose is OFFICIALLY the NBA MVP, Captain Obvious

So D. Rose will be named league MVP? Good job Captain Obvious.

Please excuse my snarkiness on what should be (and it is) a more joyous occasion. But that home loss in game one hurt. Tomorrow it will be announced- the Chicago Bulls Derrick Rose is the NBA MVP. Just the second in team history (you may have heard of the other one, MJ or something like that) and the youngest MVP in league history.

Derrick Rose inspires Pride, Awe in Former Memphis Tigers Teammates

Derrick Rose has become a force of nature this year. The man-crush of all Bulls and greater Chicago sports fans alike, he’s a runaway front-runner to win the NBA MVP award.

His breakout season has of course inspired pride and awe in the Memphis Tigers college basketball community; and among those who have moved on to the NBA, including Joey Dorsey of the Toronto Raptors, and Chris Douglas-Roberts of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Magic’s Dwight Howard Still in NBA MVP Conversation

Dwight Howard Magic

Even though most members of the media have chalked the Chicago Bulls Derrick Rose up as the MVP of the NBA this season Dwight Howard’s head coach and teammates beg to differ.

And, if you’re going to be open to having a discussion on the topic, it’s not hard to see their argument.

Howard currently ranks in the top 10 in rebounding, blocked shots and field goal percentage. If he finishes in the top 1o in scoring (he’s currently tied for tenth) he would become just the tenth player in NBA history  to finish in the top 10 in each of those categories. Pretty heady company since only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal, Tim Duncan, Bob McAdoo, David Robinson, Bob Lanier, Artis Gilmore, Patrick Ewing and Hakeem Olajuwon have accomplished this feat.
