Outstanding off-season keeps Boston Celtics NBA title contenders

The Sports Bank will be counting down to the opening tip of the 2012-13 NBA season with team by team previews starting with the worst and working our way to the title contenders.  There is no lockout this time around so let’s get going.

The goal in recent years for the Boston Celtics was just get to the postseason healthy in hopes of making a playoff run with their veteran core.  This off-season, the Celtics got younger, deeper, and all-around better meaning they will once again be a serious player in the Eastern Conference.

Boston Celtics heading towards a youth movement this off-season?

Despite coming within a game of advancing to the NBA Finals, the Boston Celtics are approaching a potential crossroads this off-season with veterans Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen hitting the free agent market.  The question facing the C’s front office is to re-sign their veterans or look towards the future.

2011 NBA Off-Season Losers

It was a shortened 2011 NBA off-season and certainly lacked the excitement and drama of the summer of 2010.  Some teams failed to make the needed moves to improve their roster and actually took a step back while other teams made drastic improvements.  Here my NBA off-season losers which include the Los Angeles Lakers, New Jersey Nets, and Boston Celtics.

Aging Celtics In Need of Depth This Off-Season

Like we are currently seeing in the NFL, the 2011 NBA off-season is up in the air with a lockout looming.  Free agency could be delayed and completely restructured depending on the new agreement reached by the owners and players.  Still, The Sports Bank continues to break down all thirty NBA teams to see what areas they need to address in the off-season.

The Boston Celtics enter the off-season with only six players under contract for next season.  They must find some depth this summer to prevent their small, remaining window of being among the elite in the league from slamming shut.

Shaq a Good Fit in Boston

Shaq Celtics

Shaq was one of two big name NBA free agents left on the market.  Now, Tracy McGrady is left all alone without a home.  The Diesel will take his huge body and declining game to the Boston Celtics in hopes of helping the aging team win another ring.  Is it a good move?  I think so.
