VIDEO: John Oliver parodies Chicago Bulls pregame intros

john-oliver-liverpool

John Oliver struck gold again last night. Before we get to him, we need to remind the reader of the origination of this segment. The Chicago Bulls were THE FIRST NBA team to dim their lights and play loud pump-up music during the introduction of the starting lineup at home games.

Other teams around the league soon followed suit. Then it spilled over into other sports. During the Bulls’ dynasty, the player introductions became world famous. Thousands of weddings during the early and mid ’90s ripped off the Bulls intro when trotting out the bridal party.

Bulls’ Gar Forman, Heat’s Pat Riley NBA Execs of the Year

It’s fitting that the two teams on a collision course for the Eastern Conference Finals (and with it, the ultimate right to deny Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks their first league title) produced the league’s top front office men.

Chicago Bulls General Manager Gar Forman and Miami Heat President Pat Riley are co-recipients of the 2010-11 NBA Executive of the Year award, the NBA announced today. So that’s Coach of the Year in Tom Thibodeau, MVP in Derrick Rose, the league’s best record and now Exec of the year.

Atlanta Hawks Bringing Momentum into Series with Bulls

NBA Cheerleaders

The Atlanta Hawks have a lot to feel good about as they upset the Orlando Magic in the first round of the NBA playoffs and reprise their role as the underdog in a round two showdown with the Chicago Bulls.

The Hawks have to be happy with the production they got from their two shooting guards, Joe Johnson and Jamal Crawford. Crawford looked unstoppable at times as he averaged 20.5 points per game in the series—6.3 points more than his regular season average. Although he was held to just eight points in Game 5, Crawford scored 23 points or more in the first four games of the series and finished with a 19 point effort on Thursday.

The United Kingdom’s Basketball Journalists Association has deemed Chicago small forward Luol Deng the worldwide British born player of the year. He takes home the Syd Lipski award.

The Londoner starred for Great Britain in last summer’s Eurobasket qualifiers before having probably his best season in his NBA career. Deng became a legitimate second scoring option behind Derrick Rose as the Bulls claimed the league’s best regular season record, 61-21.

Bulls Ronnie Brewer Posterizes Pacers Josh McRoberts (Video)

Who says Chicago Bulls two guard Ronnie Brewer is only a defensive specialist? He looked pretty offensive here, at least to the Indiana Pacers Josh McRoberts, who got dunked and owned. It was deemed Sportscenter’s #1 highlight of the night. And even more entertaining than the dunk was television announcer Stacy King’s exclamated gibberish.

His effervescent, nutbar ramblings make this clip all the more fun. Hat tip to Docksquad Sports for this video.

Chicago Bulls Major Player in the Eastern Conference Again

kobe bryant-derrick rose

So the Chicago Bulls didn’t get LeBron James. Or Dwyane Wade. Or later, Carmelo Anthony.

It doesn’t seem to matter.

Sitting pretty atop the NBA’s Central division at 12-8 heading into Friday’s huge 8 p.m. match-up with the Los Angeles Lakers at United Center, the Bulls should be right in the thick of things for the Eastern Conference championship despite not landing one of the biggest names in basketball in the off-season or via trade.

Let’s take a look at some things to like about Chicago:
