Big East Tournament will have major impact on NCAA Tournament seedings

big east tournament

The next few days of the Big East Tournament will play a major factor in the seeding that the conference teams earn when the NCAA Tournament brackets are announced on Selection Sunday.  A team could easily move up or down a couple of seeds depending on the outcome of their performance at Madison Square Garden.  Here is a best case/worst scenario on where the Big East teams could land in the brackets depending on their result at the Big East Tournament.

Playing under the spotlight of Madison Square Garden during the Big East Tournament can do wonders to either help or hurt a college basketball player’s NBA Draft Stock.  NBA scouts and general managers flock to the five-day tournament to check out some of the elite talent in the country.  Here are some players who have seen their stock rise and fall with their play in the BET. College Hoops 101 (3/16/11)

There is doing work and then there is what I did during Conference Tournament week.  I was to watching college basketball what Bob Knight is to pump fakes; obsessed.  I did not reach my goal of watching all 15 Big East Tournament games but I did set a single week record for games watched. Plus, my final bracketology also held its own against Joe Lunardi’s which I consider a great success.  Now, let the madness begin!

If you are unfamiliar with College Hoops 101, it is a weekly feature here at The Sports Bank that breaks down everything you need to know going on in the world of college basketball.  I will look back at the conference tourneys and break down what to expect in the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament.

College Hoops 101 (3/8/11)

First off, let me say that I am rather disappointed with my lack of college basketball watching this season.  I did say that I was going with a “quality over quantity” approach this year and not watching a game for an eight-day stretch when I was covering the Packers in the Super Bowl did not help my numbers.  My goal this week is to watch all 15 Big East Tournament games (you can check out my preview/predictions for that tourney) and hit the 25-game mark this week.

If you are unfamiliar with College Hoops 101, it is a weekly feature here at The Sports Bank that runs every Monday and breaks down everything you need to know going on in the world of college basketball.  I will look back at the previous week and peak ahead to some of the key match-ups in the next seven days.  Click here to check out my updated bracketology.

15 games in five days.  Ladies and gentlemen, that is the Big East Tournament.  Some think it is more difficult to win the BET than it is the NCAA Tournament.  With ten, possibly eleven tourney teams from the conference, that theory could actually be true this season.  Here is a preview and my predictions for the 2011 Big East Tournament which tips-off Tuesday morning.

The Big East Tournament is played on the biggest basketball stage in the world; Madison Square Garden.  Plenty of scouts flock to MSG every March for the BET and with every game televised, the exposure for future NBA hopefuls is heightened more so than any other time of the year (minus maybe the NCAA Tournament.)  Here is a look at which players helped and hurt their stock with their performances at the BET.

Big East Tournament Predictions

By: David Kay

I love Big East basketball so much that when the time comes that I am lucky enough to find a wonderful woman to marry; my bachelor party will be held in New York City the weekend of the Big East Tournament.  While my friends are out stealing a famous person’s tiger, eloping with strippers, and trying to pull their teeth out with a wrench; I will contently sit at Madison Square Garden watching 15 college basketball games in five days.  That is the Big East Tournament.

Last year’s tourney treated us to one of the best college basketball games of all time.  While it will be nearly impossible for a repeat performance, the 2010 version is shaping up to be just as entertaining and have major implications on the NCAA Tournament seeds.  Here are my predictions for how the Big East Tournament will play out.
