Kentucky’s Anthony Davis ready to join New Orleans Hornets

anthony davis

A couple years ago, Anthony Davis was a lightly recruited guard at Charter Perspectives High School in Chicago, Ill. Then he grew over half a foot, and became a big man prospect with guard skills. The rare combination of attributes led to his shooting up the recruiting rankings. He became a McDonald’s All-American, won all the national college basketball individual awards, and led the Kentucky Wildcats to a national championship in his one-and-done season.

Now the unibrowed one is set become the #1 overall pick by the NBA owned New Orleans Hornets.

The Sports Bank’s Ngozi Ekeledo stopped by the 2012 NBA Draft Combine’s Media Day and talked to the most-likely top draft pick about handling the media pressure and his familiarity with the city of New Orleans.

Yet another anti-Anthony Davis, anti-Kentucky picture

anthony-davis-bert

Anthony Davis has answered questions about his unibrow all season long. And about being people making fun of him for it. He doesn’t shy away from it; he embraces it. The national player of the year and future #1 pick in the NBA draft isn’t changing himself for you, or the funny gifs and jpegs you make.

Or the ones below. Can you feel the Kentucky Wildcats hatred out there? It’s getting to be almost Duke like. Or New York Yankees like. Remember, every year UK wins the title, the Yankees win the World Series. Watch the World Series odds change significantly after Calipari cuts down the nets tonight.

Enjoy the gallery.

Kentucky’s Anthony Davis, his unibrow, targetted by Florida Gator fans

anthony-davis

Kentucky’s Anthony Davis is a phenomenal college player who is on track to accomplish a rare grand slam: “national player of the year, national defensive player of the year, national freshman of the year, and the #1 pick in the NBA Draft. It’s a rare feat.

Davis has been incredible, The Chicago native from Charter Perspectives high school has more blocks than 300 teams. He has a handful of SEC and UK blocks records already, and he hasn’t even been there a year. Now that we’ve talked about what he has going for him, let’s talk about what he doesn’t.

Simply put, Davis is unfortunate looking; especially with that giant unibrow. He’s about fun to look at it, as he is to interview. And trust me, he is one terrible interview. But for more Davis bashing I turn to the Florida Gators student section, via Busted Coverage, who had a great time, at the expense of Davis’ Frida Kahlo type feature, and general unsightliness

#1 Kentucky Wildcats vs. #4 Louisville Cardinals: everything you need to know

ashley judd kentucky

It’s a bluegrass, bourbon, basketball battle. The biggest meeting ever between the two rivals from the state of Colonel Sanders’ fried chicken and his secret recipe. It’s the Kentucky Wildcats vs. the Louisville Cardinals at the Final Four in New Orleans. Sounds very Southern (and drunk) to me.

Let’s get to it!

Kentucky’s Anthony Davis wins AP Player of Year award

Kentucky’s Anthony Davis joins Kevin Durant (2006-07) as only the second player ever to win the AP Player of the Year award as a freshman. He’s only the 3rd player from the SEC to win AP Player of the Year, joining a pair of LSU Tigers: Shaquille O’Neal, Pete Maravich.

More Kentucky Wildcats tourney wins=more emphasis on one-and-done prospects

kentucky-cheerleader

There aren’t many songs about Kentucky. However, Elvis (Presley, not Costello, Grbac or Dumervil) did sing about “the cold Kentucky rain.” But with the way Kentucky’s college basketball team whipped Baylor today, and how convincing they look as the favorite to cut down the nets in New Orleans, and it’ll be “Kentucky reign.”

And Kentucky reign is based on John Calipari buying recruiting the top-of-the-line prospects; the one-and-done to the NBA guys. Big Blue has become the destination for blue-chip recruits, year-in and year-out, they keep replenishing them. And if UK wins it all this year, expect more teams to copy their style.

Look for this to be the first of many. Kentucky Wildcats center Anthony Davis, who did his prep ball in Chicago at Charter Perspectives to sweep the college basketball national player of the year awards.

McDonald’s All-American Game Tonight Features Nation’s Best Prospects

mcdonald's-all-american-game-chicago

Kobe. Jordan. Dwight Howard. Derrick Rose. Before they went on to NBA greatness, they all played in it, the nation’s premier high school all-star game. Tonight, the United Center– home of the Chicago Bulls will host the 2011 McDonald’s All-American Game. The Michael Jordan statue outside the UC is adorned with MJ’s jersey from his appearance in the 1981 game.

What should you expect? Well, it’s an All-Star game so not much defense; but also a fun, laid-back atmosphere. It’s a chance to see the nation’s best incoming college basketball freshmen, who will also probably comprise half the 2012 NBA Draft Lottery. The #1 rated recruit Austin Rivers, a Duke commit and son of Chicago playground legend, ex-NBA star and current Boston Celtics Coach Doc Rivers will suit up for the West team.
