malcolm delaney

For just the third time in school history, the Virginia Tech Hokies are ranked in the pre-season Top 25.  But in classic coach speak, pre-season rankings do not mean a thing for this group.  Everything will be a disappointment if VA Tech does not reach the NCAA Tournament. The Sports Bank’s “99 in 99” breaks down the 72 power conference college basketball teams and top 27 … [Read more...] about 99 in 99: #21 Virginia Tech Hokies

Bruce Pearl body paint

If you had Bruce Pearl in the “Which shady college coach would be the next to get busted for a major recruiting violation” pool, congratulations.  Pearl put the Tennessee Volunteer program in a troubling situation but if the team can not let that affect the product on the floor, the Vols should be a contender in the SEC. The Sports Bank’s 99 team college basketball preview … [Read more...] about 99 in 99: #22 Tennessee Volunteers

November 3, 2010 By paulmbanks

Andrew Bogut

Editor's note: With the "Optimist, Pessimist, Realist" feature, I focus on one aspect of the game that deserves some hope for future success (Optimist), one that ellicits feelings of dread and negativity (Pessimist), and one thing that falls in the middle ground that is hard to argue against either way (Realist). There wasn't much to be celebrating from the Milwaukee Bucks' … [Read more...] about Analysis of the Milwaukee Bucks loss to the Portland Trail Blazers

Milwaukee Bucks suffer a throwback loss to the Portland Trail Blazers

November 3, 2010 By paulmbanks

By Jake McCormick In elections, a small sample size of voters leads to accurate early projections. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for early scoring runs in NBA games. If the first six minutes of the Milwaukee Bucks 90-76 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers had decided the game, Milwaukee would've won by triple digits. But in the next 42 minutes, the Blazers … [Read more...] about Milwaukee Bucks suffer a throwback loss to the Portland Trail Blazers

Illini Mikel LeShoure: the Next Rashard Mendenhall?

November 2, 2010 By paulmbanks

The Illini could very well run the table the rest of the way. Even if they don't, already at 5-3, (3-2 in Big Ten) they have greatly improved upon last year's 3-9 mark and will likely make their way into a pretty decent bowl. This season has been a pleasant surprise to say the least. Among the talent on the Illini roster is a trio of juniors with NFL level measurables and … [Read more...] about Illini Mikel LeShoure: the Next Rashard Mendenhall?
