Kirk Cousins will replace Robert Griffin III at quarterback Sunday when the Washington faces Atlanta. I like RG3, but man am I getting sick of seeing his press conferences on my television. ESPN has just been over-covering the hell out of RG3 and the Skins, and it has the tendency to make RG3 a polarizing figure. I still like him, and I really don’t watch ESPN all that much, so for me to notice how his face is on tv every second really says something.
By starting Kirk Cousins over Robert Griffin III, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan might be trying to force his ouster.
Griffin told the media Wednesday that Mike Shanahan has informed him that he will be shut down for the remainder of the season as the coach “wanted to make sure I got to the offseason free from injury.” So I guess we won’t be seeing him all the time on television anymore.
Obviously, D.C. is way out of the playoff chase, but Kirk Cousins has filled in quite well when given the opportunity. He’s played as good or better than can he be expected.
“I think the risk is too great. I don’t want him going to his third year on IR,” Shanahan said of RG3 being shutdown. “We’re in here to win games, but I’m going to do the right thing.”.
Griffin said he wouldn’t let the benching “break my spirit” and he vowed to be supportive of Kirk Cousins.
“I promise y’all I’ll be there for him every step of the way,” he said.
The former Michigan State Spartans QB said he knows he’s not the franchise QB. He’s not the answer and this is still RG3′ s team. Even though for the moment it belongs to Kirk Cousins. One injury-plagued season in which Griffin was not himself, and he made the mistake of rushing back too soon doesn’t mean he’s out of D.C. We’ll see how Kirk Cousins does for these last three and then re-evaluate.
