Green Bay Packers 2011 Schedule Notables

We’re not sure if all of them will be played, but the Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers schedule has been released.

Not only do they kick off the NFL Season in the league’s opening Thursday game, they play on three holidays and have many juicy match-ups in their journey to back-to-back Super Bowls.

Week 1: Thursday, Sept. 8th vs. New Orleans Saints 7:30 PM (NBC)

– It will be the first time the Packers open a season on Thursday Night
– Barnburner Alert: Packers and Saints ranked top 10 in offense in each of the last five seasons

Week 2: Sunday, Sept. 18th @ Carolina Panthers 12:00 PM (FOX)
– Green Bay is 5-0 in their first road game of the season under Mike McCarthy

Week 3: Sunday, Sept. 25th @ Chicago Bears 3:15 PM (FOX)
– The Packers return to Chicago for the second time this year (NFC Championship Game on Jan. 23rd) for the 184th game in the NFL’s oldest rivalry

Week 4: Sunday, Oct. 2nd vs. Denver Broncos 3:15 PM (CBS)
– Green Bay is 3-0 against the Broncos at Lambeau Field

Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 9th @ Atlanta Falcons 7:20 PM (NBC)
– Rematch of the NFC Divisional Playoff Match-Up won by the Packers 48-21

Week 6: Sunday, Oct. 16th vs. St. Louis Rams 12:00 PM (FOX)
– The 90th regular season match-up against the Rams dating back to 1937 (the most against a non-divisional foe)

Week 7: Sunday, Oct. 23rd @ Minnesota Vikings 3:15 PM (FOX)
– This border-battle was swept by Green Bay in 2010
– Even with Brett Favre retired, expect the media to bring him up in week 7

Week 8: BYE Week

Week 9: Sunday, Nov. 6th @ San Diego Chargers 3:15 PM (FOX)
– Green Bay is 8-1 against San Diego, including five straight wins
– Aaron Rodgers vs. Philip Rivers marks a battle between two of the league’s elite QBs

Week 10: Monday, Nov. 14th vs. Minnesota Vikings 7:30 PM (ESPN)
– This will be the Packers only Monday Night Football Game

Week 11: Sunday, Nov. 20th vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 12:00 PM (FOX)
– The Packers have struggled with Tampa Bay in recent years, losing their last three against the Bucs

Week 12: Thursday, Nov. 24th @ Detroit Lions 11:30 AM (FOX)
– Green Bay will take part in their 34th Thanksgiving Game where they hold an ugly 13-18-2 record

Week 13: Sunday, Dec. 4th @ New York Giants 3:15 PM (FOX)
– This will be the second time the Packers play at New Meadowlands Stadium, but the first versus the Giants there (Packers defeated NY Jets 9-0 in 2010)

Week 14: Sunday, Dec. 11th vs. Oakland Raiders 12:00 PM (CBS)
– The Packers have won their last five against the Raiders

Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 18th @ Kansas City Chiefs 12:00 PM (FOX)
– Green Bay has never visited Kansas City in the month of December

Week 16: Sunday, Dec. 25th vs. Chicago Bears 7:20 PM (NBC)
– In addition to Thanksgiving, the Packers are also playing on Christmas for the second time in franchise history

Week 17: Sunday, Jan. 1st vs. Detroit Lions 12:00 PM (FOX)
– Mark up another holiday for the Packers as they will play on New Years Day for the second time in franchise history
– It’s also the third time in the last five years that the Lions have visited Green Bay on the last week of the season
