With all the questions surrounding the Chicago Bulls this offseason, we might overlook the issue of Taj Gibson‘s health. That’s understandable, as Gibson often goes overlooked during the regular season. And given how the Bulls weren’t able to exploit their frontcourt advantage enough versus the Cleveland Cavaliers in the post-season…well, let’s just say the national NBA pundits who declared the Bulls possessors of the league’s best forward group are…wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
That said, Taj Gibson is still a sold and important player. How he recovers from ankle surgery remains one of this summer’s most important issues.
Here’s what the team sent out today in an official release:
Chicago Bulls forward Taj Gibson underwent an arthroscopy and repair of his left ankle on Tuesday, June 16. The surgery was performed by foot specialist Dr. David Porter in Indianapolis. Gibson’s surgery went as expected and he has begun the rehabilitation process. His estimated time to return to full basketball activity is approximately four months.
The rest of the release was just basic Taj Gibson facts and statistics. So let’s look at that “four months” timetable. It would put us at October 19th; or late preseason. So, hypothetically, he would be ready, albeit a bit rusty for the season opener.
Not the worst Taj Gibson news ever. It’s fine. We’ll take it.
