The Brooklyn Nets are officially on the market. So if you’ve got $780,000,000 that’s just burning a whole in your pocket, time to act. According to a Forbes evaluation a year ago, that’s what the Nets are currently worth.
Bloomberg’s Scott Soshnick was the very first to report that the Brooklyn Nets are for sale and that Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov has retained the firm Evercore Partners to sell the franchise on his behalf.
The first foreign born owner of an NBA team, Prokhorov holds 80% share of the club and 45% share of the Barclays Center. The 2 1/2-year-old arena next season will house the NHL’s New York Islanders, in addition to the Nets. Right now, only the team is for sale, Bloomberg’s sources say.
Prokhorov paid $365,000,000 for the Nets in 2010; according to Forbes. Both the Brooklyn Nets and the Evercore spokespeople have refused to comment on the team being put back on the market.
