Philip Humber worked really fast for the Chicago White Sox. It took him just 90 pitches to throw the 20th perfect game in Major League regular season history (21st overall). It was also the 3rd perfect game in White Sox history.
Alexei Ramirez and Gordon Beckham were also a part of Mark Buerhle’s perfecto in 2009. How many players in MLB history played in two perfect games? Humber had a very pleasantly surprising season first half in 2011. He kind of slumped in the second half, and his final numbers from the year look rather mediocre, but all in all it was above what was expected.
And now this rare feat gives him a huge boost to build confidence and career momentum. A fine way to keep things moving in the right direction in 2012. Congrats Mr. Humber!
