Wenger: “It’s Possible” Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez Could Leave in January

The January transfer window is poised to be much more interesting than usual in 2018. That’s because Arsenal FC’s stellar out-of-contract duo, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, could be on the move. Typically, big name players of this variety don’t get transferred in the January transfer window but the Emirates risk receiving nothing in return if/when Ozil and Alexis bolt.

At a news conference on Thursday morning, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was asked whether or not he would consider a January sale.

Wenger responded: “Once you’re in our kind of situation, you envisage every solution, yes. It’s possible.”

This should definitely put both Manchester clubs on alert.

Ozil has been heavily linked to Manchester United in transfer rumors. Sanchez was the subject of a bid from Manchester City this past summer transfer window and it’s likely City will revisit their pursuit come New Year’s.

Ozil is reportedly interested in potentially staying at the club, but Wenger confirmed that the club isn’t even remotely close to striking a deal with the German international. Wenger remains hopeful that both Sanchez and Ozil will still sign contract extensions with the club.

“I always said that the fact that we didn’t find an agreement last year doesn’t mean that the player will necessarily leave,” Wenger said.

“Because both players look happy here. Overall I hope that the situation can be turned around.”

Additionally, Theo Walcott is another player that the Gunners will reportedly put on the trading block come January.
