Tottenham Hotspur Transfer Talk: Toby Alderweireld, Lewis Cook

The mid November international break is certainly the perfect time to talk some transfer rumors, as the January window will be here before you know it. In this article we focus on Tottenham Hotspur, who as you know, became the first team since the inception of the transfer window not to buy a single player in a given summer transfer window.

Perhaps the January transfer window will be more interesting and exciting? It can only go up from here, right? We begin with transfer talk surrounding Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook.

Sky Sports writes that Tottenham are keeping an eye on the 21-year-old, who would certainly help to fill a position of need in north London. Meanwhile, the Daily Star claims that Mauricio Pochettino has put in a bid of £30 million.

Next we move on to Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho attending Belgium’s win over Iceland this week, and when asked why he was in Brussels, the Portugese joked “for the weather.”

Of course he was really there to scout Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld. The long tedious summer transfer saga from the summer is apparently set for a reboot in January, even though the deal might have to be delayed even further, until the summer of 2019.

This was a narrative that had been reported by some outlets last summer.

It’s possible that the transaction might have a better chance of getting done this summer, because now the transfer fee will be reduced, and thus United CEO Ed Woodward would be more likely to sanction the funding for it.

The Evening Standard writes that: “Woodward is aware Alderweireld will be available for a significantly reduced price of £25.4 million next summer, which could pave the way to compromise in the New Year.”
