Tottenham Midfielder Mousa Dembele Hit With 6 Match Ban

Tottenham Hotspur Midfielder Mousa Dembele escaped a booking for his disgusting eye-gouge of Chelsea striker Diego Costa on Monday night. The official may have missed it, but the Football Association did not. Dembele has been charged with violent conduct, but he’ll be away from the pitch for double the industry standard three match ban.

The FA said that the usual three-game suspension “is clearly insufficient.” He’ll get six instead; meaning he’ll miss Spurs last two this year and first four next year.

The FA confirmed in a statement that an independent disciplinary panel agreed with that assertion and doubled the length of the suspension.

In case you missed it, you can check out video of the incident below:

This wasn’t the only fracas in this match, which ended in a 2-2 draw and officially eliminated Tottenham from title contention. Both Chelsea and Tottenham were charged with failure to control their own players.

Upon conclusion of the match, the two teams went at each other. Check out the video at this link.

There’s been numerous stories emerging this week about the fallout that ensued from this match. (Here’s a link to some of them)

Chelsea Interim Manager Guus Hiddink, who made some harshly condescending remarks about Tottenham before the game, was knocked down in the melee that ensued near the tunnel.

What a disgrace to the beautiful game Dembele was in this incident with Costa. He played right into his hands. Getting into a fight like this is exactly what he wants. Additionally, Spurs as a team were a huge let down in a very meaningful, emotional match.
