Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is the latest star athlete to opine on the most timeless sports debate of all- should you, as a fan ever boo your own team? Players obviously don’t like it when they get booed by their own home fans, but as a ticket holder you do have the right to engage this kind of behavior.

As long as it complies to the letter of the law and the protocol of the venue, you are free to do whatever you like as a ticket holder. However, it doesn’t help your team, Courtois argues.

Chelsea, defending Premier League champions, are still alive in the race for top four, as well as the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup and EFL Cup this season. However, they are also scoreless in their last 276 minutes.

“I know we as a team didn’t have a good game,” the goalkeeper said to the club’s official channel, Chelsea TV.

“It was our third goalless draw, but we need the fans here at Stamford Bridge to get behind the team and not, when a player has a bad pass or a bad shot, start booing and whistling. I don’t think we’re playing a bad season.”

The Belgian is right, Chelsea are not having a bad season, they just hit a bad run of results lately and been very dull in the process. With all the success Chelsea has had lately, the supporters have very high standards, and rightly so.

Clearly, the fans really touched a nerve with Thibaut Courtois this weekend, but his side will have a chance to come correct on Wednesday against Norwich City in the FA Cup replay.
