Romelu Lukaku continued his dominance of lesser competition today, scoring a brace to power Manchester United through to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup, with a 2-0 victory at Huddersfield Town A.F.C. Lukaku has now scored in every tournament game for United, as the Red Devils began the FA Cup in the third round.

Lukaku now has 20 goals across all competitions this season; the fourth straight campaign in which he was scored at least 20 times.

With his huge performance today, Romelu Lukaku became a world wide top trending term on Twitter. Some of the tweets were the usual appreciation and commendation of the Belgian’s final third heroics.

However, there was also some controversy. Lukaku’s second goal, in the 56′ should have been overruled due to violation of the offsides rule. VAR (Video Assistant Referee) clearly conveyed this.

Huddersfield can count themselves unfortunate on that second Lukaku goal. Would've been ruled out with VAR. pic.twitter.com/4S1gzHFusQ

The Football Association is testing VAR on both domestic cup competitions this season, and this was the first time United played in a match that included the new technology.

Earlier this week, United manager Jose Mourinho said that he was a fan of VAR.

In the first half, VAR took a goal away from United midfielder Juan Mata, and here in the video below you can see Mata and Lukaku discussing the technology, and taking a look at the replay.

With Mata, it was a really close call. He was offsides by just the smallest of margins- a kneecap or so.
