On Saturday, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba was indeed the Pogba we thought we would see when he broke the world transfer fee record in moving back to United from Juventus in 2016. During the Manchester derby, the £89.3 million man scored two goals in just two minutes, and sparked the comeback that kept City from winning the Premier League title at home this past weekend.
Pogba said after the match that had City won, and celebrated the title in front of United, it would have been like death for Red Devils supporters.
On Saturday, Pogba showed the world the Pogba that United want to see in every match, and it landed him the very top spot in ESPN FC’s individual player power rankings this week. Here’s what they wrote as they slotted him in the penthouse.
Why he’s here: Pogba scored a pair of goals two minutes apart to erase Manchester City’s 2-0 half-time lead and set United on their way to a 3-2 comeback win in the derby.
A former United man who’s now with West Ham, Chicharito, placed #9 while Christian Eriksen of Tottenham was #6 and Danny Welbeck of Arsenal #7. That meant four of the top ten were represented by Premier League teams.
